Just a really quick video showing how to replace the broken plastic hinges on a coleman cooler with Stainless Steel ones. Very happy with the new hinges. You will just need a phillips screwdriver or drill with a phillips bit to replace them.

The plastic hinges that come installed on many of the Coleman Coolers are not very strong and will get weaker with time and use.  The plastic hinges broke on our Coleman Cooler, and so I set out to find a solution.  I recently visited some family members and noticed that their Coleman Cooler lid was also broken off at the hinges.  Fortunately, I was able to find replacement stainless steel hinges that can be used instead of replacement plastic ones.  They completely solved the problem.  Replacing them is very easy, you just unscrew the old plastic hinges,(or what’s left of them) and screw on the new ones.  The part of the hinge with the embossed dot should be placed on the bottom half of the cooler, and the angled embossed part should be installed at the top, or the lid of the Cooler.  If it were installed the other way, the opening in the hinge could catch debris and may not drain properly.  I would not use an electric drill/screwdriver like I did in the video unless you are comfortable with the feel of the drill’s torque and speed.  It would be very easy to over tighten these screws and strip out the plastic on the cooler body.  Just a plain old screwdriver will work fine.  I also would recommend placing the lid on the cooler and making sure that it is closed tightly and properly sealed before completely tightening the screws in the hinges.  One side of the hinge has holes that are oblong to be able to adjust the lid to close properly.   Overall, I am very happy with these hinges, and have recommended this fix to everyone that I know that has the same old plastic hinges on their Coleman Ice Chest or Cooler.  These hinges will work with many different models and sizes.
