1997 Lexus LX450 Replacing Front Brake Pads & Rotors (Same as Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80)

Just a quick video showing how I replaced the front brake pads & rotors on a 1997 Lexus LX450. Same as Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 series. I know the video isn’t perfect, and I did a few things out of order because I was waiting on the star lock washer, but hopefully you get the main idea. (Use a brass hammer on the flange to remove the cone washers)
The torque spec info I found on the hub/bearing locknuts varies from 35-60 foot pounds, so I can only recommend to verify that with your manual for the proper technique/specs for tightening these locknuts. Also, you can search on ih8mud.com for other techniques/tips/torque specs on how to do this.
The socket I used to remove and tighten those locknuts was a 55mm socket that I purchased from AutoZone a while back, but I believe the 54mm size is what the manual calls for. But the 55mm still worked fine.

The 55 mm socket worked fine for me. I bought it years ago from autozone , because they had it labeled as “toyota landcruiser socket”. So far the brakes feel good. Better than stock pads & rotors, but I think I might upgrade the brake lines to stainless steel next to get a firmer pedal. It stops much better now than it did. I had to buy the replacement lock washer from my local Toyota Dealership. It was 8 bucks but came in a 2-pack. Probably cheaper online… Might be a good idea to change them anyway since the tabs are bent down and might break when bent back upon install.
This project is really not too difficult, but it takes a while longer than a typical brake job.

Below is the link to the brake pads and rotors I used:
Also, I recommend following the manufacturer’s instructions on how to properly ‘bed’ the brake pads.
