1997 Lexus LX450 Side Marker Replacement LED Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80

Just a quick video showing how to change the side marker bulb in a toyota landcruiser. This is on a Lexus LX450, but it is the same as the Toyota FJ80 Land Cruiser. I decided to make this video, because when I went to change the bulb, I couldn’t see any aditional bolts or screws holding the bulb housing in place. I did a little research and learned that the trick to remove it is that you just have to pull it straight towards the front of the vehicle without prying on the fender.

Tools needed:
Phillips Screwdriver
Replacement bulb

This was a pretty easy job, but you just need to know the trick to taking off the side marker assembly. First you need to pop the hood and remove the screw holding in the top part of the side marker assembly. There is a small metal rounded pin at the bottom of the side marker assembly that is pressed into a socket on the vehicle. This is like a plastic retainer type of socket so it will snap out with the right amount of pressure. I just try to my fingertips to pull the side marker forward with one hand, and with the other, I just try to put a little pressure up and down and kind of wiggle the side marker forward. Once it comes loose, you can twist the plastic part where the wires are connected and remove the existing bulb from the lamp housing. The old halogen bulb will pull out easily, and you can just press the new led bulb in it’s place. Then, you just replace the connector back into the lamp housing. But before putting the lamp assembly back on the vehicle, test to see if the bulb works. If it doesn’t work, take the led bulb out and turn it 180 degrees and put it back in. With the bulb tested and working properly, you can now put the side marker assembly back on the vehicle. There are two black plastic tabs on the lamp housing that need to go on the inside of the fender before you push the pin back into the socket. Finally, you can replace the screw that holds in the top.
I decided to use LED because it is a whiter light and is brighter than the original halogen.
