2013 Toyota Prius V Front Strut Replacement

Just a video showing how to replace the front struts on a 2013 Toyota Prius V. This is also the same method to many other Prius models. This video has footage from both sides of the vehicle. The replacement struts are Left and Right specific to the vehicle.
Tools needed:
10mm socket or wrench
12mm socket or wrench
14mm socket or wrench
17mm open end wrench
19mm socket and/or wrench
22mm socket with breaker or cheater bar and 22mm wrench
flathead screwdriver
6mm allen wrench or comparable
strut spring compression tool
razor blade (to cut off old bellows/boot if needed)
Torque Wrench

Torque specs:
Top of the Strut shaft bolt is 35 ft. lbs
The Three nuts that attach the strut to the vehicle are 37 ft. lbs.
The two large bolts that attach the strut to the hub assembly are 177 ft. lbs.
The sway bar end link that attaches to the strut is 55 ft. lbs.
The bolt that holds the brake line and ABS cable is 14 ft. lbs.

The struts used in the video are Monroe OE Spectrum and the ride is very similar to stock. Please use caution when compressing the spring, including proper eye protection. Here is a link to the strut spring compression tool used in the video:

The bellows or strut boot kit was purchased at a local auto parts store, but I believe it is the same as this one I found on Amazon:

  1. great video, gave me the confidence to do it myself.
    I found I could remove strut w/o removing all of the wiper arms/cowling etc.
    I used a long ratchet wrench that did not have any bend/offset.
    basically flat. I could easily loosen the bolts which save a huge amount of time.
